About this guide
Mac Security Guide is an independently created educational resource to help people think through basic Mac safety decisions. It is not affiliated with Apple and is not the official website of Intego or Kape.
Why this guide exists
Security products can be confusing, especially when broad marketing statements are applied to different product tiers. We emphasize practical steps anyone can take first, explain the limits of any single tool, and distinguish products by the actual plan offered.
How we evaluate advice
- We prioritize repeatable practices: updates, trusted downloads, account security, and backups.
- We distinguish macOS features from optional third-party functionality.
- We avoid unverifiable rankings, fabricated lab tests, or claims of perfect detection.
- We link to primary sources for vendor-specific feature claims and review content when details change.
Commercial disclosure
This guide uses a partner link to Intego ONE Essential. If you buy through the link, the publisher may receive an affiliate commission. This does not increase the checkout price as a result of this site's own markup; vendor pricing and policies are determined by the vendor. We do not sell subscriptions directly.
